History: Historically the city was called Trichinopoly in English, and its short forms are Trichy and Tiruchi.
Geography: Tiruchirappalli is at almost the geographic centre of Tamil Nadu. The Cauvery delta begins about 16 km west of the city, where the river divides into the Kaveri and the Kollidam.
